Think of Ayder as a slow day in which to settle into the rhythm of the Kaçkar Mountains, rather than a quick photo stop. Early mornings are quieter, and mist, rain and sun may all pass through on the same day.
Why include Ayder in your route?
At an elevation of 1,350 metres, Ayder is one of the northern starting points for walks into the Kaçkar Mountains. Forests, highland houses and shifting weather reveal the region’s character in one place.
The road south from central Çamlıhemşin passes through several layers of the Fırtına Valley, making the journey part of the experience.
How should you plan the day?
Leave early to arrive before the busiest hours. Allow time for a walk, viewpoints and a taste of local food.
On the return, choose one additional valley stop instead of rushing between many. You will enjoy the plateau more and still return to the villa at a comfortable pace.
Practical notes
Before you set out
- Carry a light rain jacket even under a clear sky.
- Choose the morning hours in peak season.
- Check current road conditions before heading into the highlands.
