Built on a steep rock above the western side of the Fırtına River, Zilkale is more than a historic structure: together with the forest and mist, it is one of the valley’s most memorable viewpoints.
What will you see at the castle?
Zilkale consists of outer walls, middle walls and an inner castle. The middle section contains structures identified as guard quarters, a chapel and the main tower.
Its position opens a high view over the valley. On rainy days the stone surfaces can be slippery, so suitable footwear matters.
How should you combine the route?
Şenyuva stone bridge, Zilkale and Palovit Waterfall sit along the same valley line. Check current road and seasonal conditions before attempting all three in one day.
Mist is not bad news for photographs; it often makes the castle’s dramatic relationship with the valley even more visible.
Practical notes
Before you set out
- Wear shoes with good grip on wet stone.
- Check visibility and road conditions in rainy weather.
- Leave enough time for the Şenyuva–Zilkale–Palovit route.
